The source of the new coronavirus outbreak in the city of Nanjing in Jiangsu province in eastern China was Air China flight CA910, which arrived from Russia on July 10. This was reported by local authorities, reports Global Times.

The first infected were airport employees who cleaned the cabin after this flight. They may have violated personal disinfection requirements. As a result, the infection has spread to other colleagues who are also responsible for garbage collection on both international and domestic flights.

The first cases of infection at Nanjing airport were detected on July 20 in several workers. Currently, 184 cases have been registered in the city. The virus has spread to at least 13 cities, including Beijing and Chengdu in southwestern China. However, experts quoted by the Global Times believe the outbreak is at an early stage and can be controlled.

According to the latest data from the Chinese Health Commission, 92.8 thousand cases of coronavirus infection have been registered in the country since the beginning of the epidemic, and 4.6 thousand people have died from COVID-19 during this time. Over the past day, 64 new cases of coronavirus have been diagnosed in the country.

China has so far managed to largely keep the virus under control by closing borders and taking steps to contain local outbreaks. In the current situation, Chinese state media are writing about the strongest surge in COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic in Wuhan, the BBC notes.
